Kevin Barry Thompson, was born at Dorking, Surrey on 11 March 1950, son of Brian Patrick Thompson and his wife Hilda Mary néeGoff, who married at Surrey SE in 1948, but Kevin has lived most of his life in Lowestoft, Suffolk. Educated at Roman Hill School, Lowestoft and whilst working in Lowestoft fish market during the late seventies, at which time the docks were crammed with deep sea fishing vessels, that he first took painting seriously. He studied at Lowestoft School of Art and Design 1985-1987 and began painting professionally in 1988. He married in 1972, Vanessa Jane Russell, and they had a son and a daughter. Living at 24 Pound Farm Lane, Oulton Broad, Lowestoft, Suffolk where he is surrounded by marine subjects, not only to the painterly fishing villages and beaches along the Norfolk and Suffolk coastline, but also to the Norfolk Broads and although best known for his East Anglian landscape and marine paintings, he paints a wide variety subjects including busy street and bar scenes. He works in oil, watercolour or acrylic mediums and has exhibited at the Royal Society of Oil Painters and the Royal Society of Marine Artists at the Mall Galleries, London and has held many solo exhibitions and numerous mixed exhibitions including Ferini Gallery, Lowestoft; Reades Gallery, Aldeburgh; Toll House Gallery, Great Yarmouth and elsewhere. A member and exhibitor at the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle 1994-2002 from 24 Pound Farm Drive, Lowestoft and is an active member of the East Anglian Group of Marine Artists and the Oulton Broad Art Circle, his work is held in private collections in Great Britain, and throughout Europe.
