ClaIre KerrisonIn our newly changed world, the abstract and the surreal are, paradoxically becoming more real. Seeking refuge in her natural surroundings Claire expresses her feelings through her art using her large garden and the Wensum Valley to inspire her current work. She says “troubling times and events create an emotional melting pot; in one day one can go through many emotions. Art can release emotions which help us keep optimistic, energised and entertainedand inspire ourselves and others.
In the past year Claire has focused on developing a collection of artworks for showings in East Anglia. Working in oil pastels she uses rich tones to give her art work an intensity of colour. She says “my colour combinations are inspired by but also exaggerated by nature and by how I see the environment. Colour, movement and texture are important factors in my art”. Claire completed a degree in printed textiles in 1993 and subsequently attended Indigo Trade Fair in Paris. Attendance at this global event led to work as a freelance designer, creating original artwork for textile prints to be used by the international fashion and interior company Quadriga of London. Over the years she has worked for various charity organisations as well as a tutor for Adult Education running creative activities and art projects for ages ranging from 4yrs to 100yrs old. She has run community-based art projects as a visiting artist with local schools and youth groups. Not only does this provide stimulation for others, she finds it helpful in the development of her own work. She sees art as vital to a healthy world. |
